Private Video Surveillance Camera Program

Video Surveillance Program

The Belleville Police Department is upgrading and enhancing its Camera Registration Program and seeking assistance from residents to help us solve crimes. Belleville citizens can now easily and voluntarily register their surveillance cameras and locations by scanning the QR code or clicking the link below.

The registration process is simple and not intended to provide us with access to your camera or live stream. It only lets us know who in the area has cameras and enables you to quickly provide us with relevant, valuable footage if needed

Camera Registration

In the unfortunate event of a crime, the police can swiftly access a confidential list of registered locations of private video equipment in and around the crime scene. They can then reach out to the residents and business owners who have generously volunteered to register their private surveillance cameras. Your assistance in collecting crucial video evidence and following up on leads can significantly enhance our crime-solving capabilities. Your voluntary participation is a testament to the community's commitment to public safety.

The Belleville Police believe in Honor, Precision, Unity, and Professionalism. Principals that date back to the late 1820s with Sir Robert Peel of the London Metropolitan Police Force’s Policing Principles which are still relevant today 200 years later. This program highlights two of those principles “recognize that securing and maintaining the public's respect and approval means also securing the public's willing cooperation in ensuring the observance of laws” and that the “relationship with the public gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”
