Principals that date back to the late 1820s with Sir Robert Peel of the London Metropolitan Police Force’s Policing Principles which are still relevant today 200 years later. This program highlights two of those principles “recognize that securing and maintaining the public's respect and approval means also securing the public's willing cooperation in ensuring the observance of laws” and that the “relationship with the public gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”
