Guidelines for Parking Meters

There are approximately 700 parking meters within the City of Belleville. Parking meters are 1, 2 or 10 hour meters.  These meters accept quarters only.  Meters do not accrue time.

If the time on the meter expires, you may be issued a parking ticket, which normally costs $10.00. If any parking ticket is not paid within 5 business days, the fine doubles.

* Parking tickets may be paid by mail with a check or money order.

* There are two drop boxes where you can deposit the payment. One is located at the side entrance to City Hall off of W. Washington St., and the other is located on S. 1st Street next to the County Parking Garage. Both of these drop boxes are checked daily, Monday - Friday, for any payments received.

* The ticket may also be paid in person at the Police Records Department located at 720 W. Main St,  from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

There are also various parking lots within the City of Belleville that are FREE, but limited up to 3 hours of parking in an 8 hour period.

Parking Enforcement

Parking meters and limited free parking lots are monitored Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays.

It is illegal to park beyond the time limit indicated on the dial of each parking meter or by the signage. Community Service Officers (CSO) and Police Officers are authorized to mark the tires of any vehicle parked at a meter or in a designated space. Any vehicle found to be over the time limit at that meter, or still in the parking space after having been marked, shall be issued a ticket.

To understand the City's parking regulations, read Title VII: Chapter 74 Parking Regulations of the City Code of Ordinances.

Parking Permits

Parking permits are available for purchase at $144.00 per year, or $12.00 per month, and are to be used at 10 hour parking meters only.  For more information, call the Parking Division at 618-234-1212, x1731.
