Belle-Scott Committee
The
Belle-Scott Committee for practical community
relations between the City of Belleville, Illinois
and Scott Air Force Base was implemented in January
of 1951. This committee offers a direct means
for the two communities to work together to promote
matters of mutual interest.
Civilian and military
representatives who comprise the Belle-Scott
Committee meet each month to discuss topics
including the encouragement of social, recreational,
and cultural opportunities both in the City and on
the Base. In addition, this committee works
together to promote more active participation in
religious and educational programs, a closer working
arrangement between the Municipal and Base
Governments, better housing facilities and other
special projects and promotions.
The Belle-Scott Committee
developed several new programs in the last few years
designed to enhance the positive relationship that
currently exists between our communities. Among
the activities supported by the
committee are a job shadowing program for enlisted
personnel; the purchase of gifts at Christmas Time
for children on Base;
Support of the Airmen's Attic; and the development
of a historic Air/Park Museum. These new
programs, along with the existing projects supported
by the Belle-Scott Committee, allow us to show our
support of, and appreciation for the men and women
of the Scott Air Force Base throughout the year
