General Collection InformationContainers shall be in good repair with handles and lids. Trash cans up to 45 gallons in capacity can weigh no more that 60 pounds when filled.
Placement of containers shall not be more than five feet from the property line and must be placed out for collection by 7 a.m. the day of pick up and must be removed within 24 hours.
During the months of May, June, July, August, and September containers must be placed out by 6 a.m. the day of pick up.
No hazardous or flammable materials will be collected.
Holiday Refuse Schedule
If your collection day falls on or after a holiday, your pick up for that week will be delayed by one (1) day. Holiday refuse collection must be placed out by 6 a.m. the day of pick up. The Sanitation department does not operate on the following holidays:
- New Years Day
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Presidents Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day / 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Yard Waste Schedule
Yard waste collection occurs when weather is permitting, but the general rule is that during January and February, yard waste will be picked up during the second full week of each month. Weekly pick up of yard waste will run from the first full week of March through the second Friday in December.
Open Burning RegulationsAll open burning in the city limits, including leaf burning, was banned as of December 16, 2011. For details, read the City's regulations regarding Open Burning and Recreational Fires.
Large Item Collection
The city offers a large item pickup for a minimum fee of $45 to all residents with trash service. Additional fees are dependent upon the amount of material to be picked up. All fees must be paid in advance. Appliances and items requiring more then two men for lifting will not be picked up. All large item collections must be scheduled with the Sanitation Department by calling (618) 233-6816.
Small amounts of home remodeling material bundled in four-feet lengths or placed in trash containers will be picked up. No concrete, bricks, or shingles.
Commercial refuse must be contracted out to an independent hauler or by city approval.
